Our Mission: To bring well-researched, finely sewn historical clothing
to discerning customers who value quality, accuracy, and comfort.

Our Shop

All of our clothing is made in the USA using materials similar to what was used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Our team focuses on finding unique materials that are natural fibers and made in colors and patterns that are representative of the time periods we are portraying. Many of our items are hand-finished, meaning long, interior seams are done on a sewing machine and everything else is done by hand. We also offer machine-finished garments, these are constructed so that they look appropriate for the time period, but utilize modern sewing technology.

Our unique fabric stock, documented construction techniques, and hand-finished details make all of our pieces one of a kind! Our inventory of clothing concentrates on the early years of our nation’s history - the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Our History

Beverly Smith started Sycamore Spring Clothier in November 1999, after her daughter Kelly encouraged her to start a business selling the clothing they began creating together.

Then in 2001, Beverly's friend Kitty Tomsic joined the business as Co-Proprietress. Together Beverly and Kitty worked to build a shop that produces period-accurate clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries. Beverly and Kitty were joined by Julia Sutherly in 2009. In 2013, Jan Herrmann was recruited by her sister Kitty, and Mallory Dansereau joined the group as an apprentice.

In 2018, Beverly retired and entrusted her beloved Sycamore Spring Clothier to the four ladies who joined her over the years. Today’s leading ladies of Sycamore Spring Clothier are COO Mallory Dansereau, CFO Julia Sutherly, First Hand Jan Herrmann, and Head Researcher Kitty Tomsic.
